JOHINKE

Bruce Johinke has been named president of PB Consult, a Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc. subsidiary based in New York City that provides management consulting services. He replaces Mortimer L. Downey, who has assumed the role of chairman of PB Consult and will continue to participate in key consulting assignments with the company. Johinke most recently was head of PB Consult’s international projects group. He also served as chairman of PB Power Asia Pacific and senior vice president of Parsons Brinckerhoff International.

C. Ben Nevins, a 31-year veteran of Brice Building Co., has been named president of the firm. He will also retain his current title of chief operating officer, a position he has held since 2000. Headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., Brice Building is a regional contractor and construction management company.

L.F. Driscoll Co., based in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., has appointed Frank "Mack" Stulb as next president of the construction management firm. He has been with the company since 1984, serving most recently as vice president. Jack Donnelly, who previously held the titles of both president and CEO, will remain as CEO.

GIRDLEY

Richard C. Girdley, formerly vice president at Hill International Inc., has joined United States Crane Inc., General Clamp Industries Inc. and United States Crane Certification Bureau Inc., as president. He will take over the duties of president from Julia Ames, who will continue as CEO of United States Crane Inc., a company with over 30 years experience in the lifting industry.

Marlton, N.J.-based Hill International Inc., a construction consulting firm, has announced that C. Christopher Smith has been promoted to vice president of its construction claims group in the Washington, D.C., office. He had been a senior consultant for the past three years.

Cynthia Kracauer has been named a principal at Archimuse, a New York City architectural firm that specializes in art museums, galleries, college museums, interpretive centers, exhibitions and commercial projects. Previously, she served as a managing principal of the New York office of Swanke Hayden Connell Architects.

GIBBONS

International engineering and design firm Thornton-Tomasetti Group Inc., headquartered in New York City, has hired Bruce M. Gibbons as principal. In his new role, he will establish and manage a Thornton-Tomasetti office in Los Angeles. Formerly, he was principal in the Los Angeles office of Ove Arup & Partners USA.

David C. Miller has been elevated to senior vice president of Skanska USA Building Inc.’s Washington D.C./ Baltimore office. He was vice president and general manager. The Rockville, Md.-based firm provides construction management, preconstruction consulting, general contracting, design-build and pharmaceutical validation services. It is part of the Skanska AB Global group of companies, Parsippany, N.J.

DENNY

Heather E. Denny has been named vice president and chief operating officer for McDonald-York Inc., a 100-year old general contractor based in Raleigh, N.C. Prior to her promotion, Denny served as director of client development. Before that she was assistant project director for the firm’s pharmaceutical division.

Hazen and Sawyer Environmental Engineers & Scientists, New York City, has hired James "Jim" A. Avirett Jr. as a vice president and manager of the company’s branch office in Baltimore. He had been with Whitman, Requardt & Associates since 1971, serving the last 17 years as partner.

The GHAFARI Companies, a full-service architecture, manufacturing engineering, consulting and staffing organization, headquartered in Dearborn, Mich., has named George Barbu as vice president. He comes to the firm from Detroit-based Albert Khan Associates, where he served as director of business development.

Sylvia Corr has joined the Cambridge, Mass., office of S/L/A/M Collaborative, an architect, engineer and planner, as director of client development. She will be responsible for generating new business opportunities throughout the Northeast in higher education and science and technology sectors. She had been business development manager for R.G. Vanderweil Engineers.

WISMAR

TRO/The Ritchie Organization, a Boston, Mass.-based firm specializing in healthcare facility design, has promoted Erik B. Wismar to vice president and managing principal of its Sarasota, Fla., office. Previously, he was a senior associate.

Steven Winchester has joined Psomas, a design firm based in Los Angeles,as vice president. He will be responsible for expanding the company’s water and wastewater practice in the western U.S. He previously worked for Black and Veatch, serving most recently as regional manager for the Pacific Northwest Region.

Columbia Construction Co., a construction management firm based in North Reading, Mass., has named Bruce Blynn III as director of business development. Prior to joining Columbia Construction, he served as director of business development at J. Calnan & Associates, a construction management firm in Quincy, Mass.
