Design-Build Transportation Conference Coming

The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) cordially invites you to attend its 2005 Design-Build Transportation Conference, "Maintaining the Momentum–Creative Solutions for Tomorrow’s Challenges," to be held at the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas, Texas, April 13-15, 2005.

Join transportation industry leaders as they meet to explore integrated project delivery, consider new project possibilities and strategies and discuss the realities of today’s market. DBIA anticipates over 200 attendees at this year’s Transportation Conference. Historically, more than 25% of the attendees have been public and private owners.

Current issues, best practices and challenges facing transportation professionals will be addressed during the two and a half days of self-directed, facilitated learning. There also will be numerous networking opportunities.

Sessions include one featuring Rick Singer, Washington State Dept. of Transportation, Tacoma Narrows Bridge Office. Entitled "Partnering and the New Tacoma Narrows Bridge," the presentation will focus on how the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Team successfully integrated a partnering philosophy into all aspects of the largest single transportation project ever undertaken by the state as it strives to complete the challenging job on time and on budget. This new bridge, which parallels the existing bridge, marks WSDOT’s first attempt at using the design-build method for a major highway project. After nearly eight years of legislative wrangling and flirtations with public-private partnerships, the $850-million dollar project was finally approved in 2002.

This year’s conference also will feature a special "Owners Forum" exclusively for owners, scheduled just prior to the main conference program. In this event, public and private owners will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with their peers to share ideas, experiences and challenges in all types of project delivery methods. They will meet in an environment without pressure from those seeking to sell products and services.

DBIA Goes on Tour

The Design-Build Institute of America announces the rollout of its 2005 National Education Tour with 56 course offerings in 29 major cities–always available, always accessible!

DBIA has made delivering quality professional development programs our number one priority. We know how valuable your time is, which is why we have partnered with our 16 local chapters to make these courses available throughout the nation. DBIA offerings are the result of our combined ability to continually develop, deliver and maintain high-quality programs.

Since its inception in 1993, DBIA has been developing top-notch educational programs that have gained us worldwide recognition as the "center of excellence" in integrated project delivery. Educational needs are continuing to grow within the industry as the use of design-build project delivery steadily increases. There has been explosive demand in the number of owners, architects, engineers, construction managers, acquisition professionals and other key players who seek out DBIA to learn both basic and advanced concepts of design-build and to master the practical application of concepts learned. It is no wonder that design-build currently accounts for 40% of all ongoing design/construction, with the expectation that the majority of all design/construction projects will be completed using design-build as the delivery method of choice in the near future.

DBIA educational programs are developed to teach practical "how to" courses about design-build and to advance the education, public awareness, understanding and utility of design-build. Courses and programs developed and delivered by DBIA utilize interactive learning strategies to teach topics ranging from an introduction of design-build techniques to advanced application of design-build concepts. All are designed to impart practical learning that can be utilized in the office and on the job.
